Keith A. Skolnick, M.D
Keith A. Skolnick, M.D. is a board-certified Ophthalmologist skilled in eye surgery. He specializes in laser cataract surgery and has performed over 12,000 cataract and lens replacement procedures. He only implants intraocular lenses manufactured by the leaders in the industry including Bausch & Lomb, Johnson & Johnson, and Alcon. Besides using the standard monofocal or single vision lens implant he also uses lenses that restore one’s ability to see distance and near. These multifocal or multi vision lenses include the Tecnis®, Symfony®, ReSTOR®, PanOptix®, ReZoom®, and Crystalens®. He also implants toric lenses which correct your preexisting astigmatism resulting in even sharper vision. These include the AcrySof®, Tecnis®, PanOptix®, and Symfony® torics. He was one of the first eye surgeons in Florida to offer femtosecond laser cataract surgery technology using the Catalys® precision laser system and the LenSx® platform. He performs the gentlest ocular surgery in which no needle injection or stitch is required. Surgeries are performed with an intravenous sedative “twilight” anesthesia and topical anesthetic.
He also treats a myriad of ocular disorders such as glaucoma, eye emergencies, dry eyes, blepharitis, allergies, infections, and inflammatory conditions. Besides cataract surgery he performs many types of laser eye surgery, pterygium surgery, glaucoma procedures, clear lensectomy, and astigmatism treatments. Dr. Skolnick no longer performs LASIK surgery, but was one of the first surgeons to perform LASEK and Conductive Keratoplasty in South Florida.
Dr. Skolnick was born in New Jersey and grew up in Coral Springs, Florida. He graduated in the top ten students of his class at Taravella High School and had perfect attendance all four years. He majored in Neurobiology at the University of Michigan and studied medicine at the University of South Florida, also graduating in the top of his class. At the end of his first residency year he was honored to be awarded the “intern of the year” judged by both his peers and professors. He completed his medical and surgical residency in Ophthalmology at Loyola University of Chicago and the Hines V.A. Hospital, taking care of our veterans. After completion of his training he returned to South Florida and now resides in Davie with his wife and three children. Interestingly, he has an identical twin brother who is also an Ophthalmologist practicing in Palm Beach.
Dr. Skolnick is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and teaches both students and residents as a clinical instructor for NOVA Southeastern University’s School of Optometry. He has published articles in several peer reviewed journals and has been an investigator for a number of FDA approved clinical studies. He frequently lectures to other eye doctors and the community about recent advances in eye surgery and has been featured many times on local television news health segments and newspapers. For many years he was one of the team ophthalmologists for the Florida Panthers professional hockey team. Dr. Skolnick prides himself on keeping up with the latest medical treatments and surgical advancements. Not only is he an experienced surgeon and diagnostician, but he is compassionate and dedicated to his patients’ well-being. Please visit our website at www.FLEI.com
